Reason and Emotion
Welcome to Rational-Emotive & Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Our work embraces two major approaches in the cognitive-behavioural tradition in psychotherapy known as CBT.

Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) was developed in 1955 by Albert Ellis, Ph.D., who founded what is now known as the Albert Ellis Institute (AEI) in 1959. Dr. Ellis was widely recognised as one of the most influential psychologists of all time. Dr. Ellis served as President Emeritus of the AEI in New York City until he died in 2007. REBT is an practical, action-oriented directive approach to coping with problems placing a good deal of its focus on the present and on currently held attitudes, emotions, and unconstructive behaviours.

Cognitive Therapy (CT) was developed in the early 1960's by Aaron T. Beck, M.D., University Professor of Psychiatry, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. CT is evidence-based, which means that it is supported by research that proves that it is effective in helping people make emotional and behavioural changes.

Our role is to listen and encourage our clients to express their concerns, and teach them the CBT method so that they learn new ways of overcoming problems in everyday life. We work collaboratively as therapists in the corporate, public and private sector and our work with clients is dedicated to helping them overcome psychological problems. We are committed to enhancing clinical practice and theory by contributing to research and study in the field of CBT. We regularly attend seminars and professional development training and network with other therapists in the same field.
